Welcome to Transcendental Meditation Cafe

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is a man with a mission -- "I will fill the World with Love and Create Heaven on Earth" -- see quotes page. At the heart of his World Plan is the Transcendental Meditation technique, which develops the full inner and outer potential in everyone, in a simple, natural, and effortless way.

I learned TM in 1973 after reading John Windsor's article in The Guardian newspaper (reproduced her in full, by permission). A couple of years later I left my job at Procter & Gamble and took a 6 month sabbatical (mostly in Murren, Switzerland), learning how to teach TM. Fascinating.

Since around 1997 Maharishi has been restoring other 'technologies' from the ancient Vedic tradition. These include Ayurveda a system of natural health care (literally 'knowledge of lifespan'). Jyotish - ancient Vedic astrology - a system for bringing light to your relationship with the universe, and Stapathya-Ved, the Indian way to design homes and settlements in tune with nature.

One of my big interests is looking for complementary business teaching systems rooted in deep principles like Tom Peters (Thriving on Chaos) Stephen Covey (Seven Habits of Highly Effective People), Scott Peck (The Different Drum - building community),and Peter Senge (The Fifth Discipline - learning organisations and teaching communities). These people are all close to universal principles, and it's exciting to relate them to each other and the emerging quantum understanding of consciousness from quantum mechanics and new science -- Fritjof Capra, Deepak Chopra, Danah Zohar, etc.

Around 1995 I worked over the internet with a few friends to develop a small web site about TM. It was my first exercise in Web publishing. This 'TM Cafe' collection is a part of that site, and brings together some of my favourite pieces about TM. It is not an 'official' TM movement publication, but TM is the best thing I've ever found -- the best tool to upgrade your own hardware.

TM teaching has been relatively quiet since the big wave in the 60s and 70s. My guess is that there will be another big wave sometime, because these Vedic technologies truly are cutting edge tools, based on a deep and ancient understanding of the mechanics of consciousness.

Why wait though? You can benefit now! -- "No-one ever got a competitive advantage by following the crowd." and "The best way to predict your future is to create it."
